I am working to get my business off the ground, and I am learning a lot as I go along. Some things that I am learning require me to make changes. But like a car, it is easier to change direction if it is moving than if it is standing still.
For example, I started out pricing my services as a “project” – a specific price to help someone get unstuck and back on track. I did this because I had been told that pricing my time on an hourly basis would limit my income to only the number of hours that I could work. While this is true, if you underestimate the number of hours needed to help people get unstuck (as I have done), you end up working a lot more for a lot less! Not a good thing!
So I am going to go back to an hourly rate. That way my clients understand exactly how it works, and I am reasonably compensated for my services. It’s easy and for the time being, it works better than what I have been doing. No judgment, no negative self-talk for “messing up”. Just a simple turn of the wheel in a moving car. I don’t know if this is where I will be in another year, but the business is moving and that is the important part. Are you trying to change direction while standing still?
